Nothing about Contemporary Christian Music (CCM) is Biblical and honouring to God. Not its lyrics, not its musicians, not its melody, not its beat, not its attraction or adoration, not its flaunting sensual style. It is entirely of the world. Nor is it worshipping God but man’s ego and flesh (1 Jn. 2:16). CCM overall has a worldly, non-judgmental, anti-separatist, ecumenical and ungodly philosophy that is most definitely contrary to the apostolic doctrine and faith found in God’s Word (Rom. 16:17). CCM serves not the Lord Jesus Christ but its own belly (Rom. 16:18). Nothing about this music glorifies the Lord; its worldly and all about selfish and fleshly gratification and glorification, after the pride of life and lusts of the flesh and eyes (1 Jn. 2:16), and of such John says are clearly lost, for they “love . . . the world” and “the things that are in the world” and thus “the love of the Father is not in him.” (1 Jn. 2:15; cf. Jn. 5:38-42).
“And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever.” (1 Jn. 2:17).
People that love this music, love the world; they do not abide for ever.
Many that are engrossed in this music claim to be Christian, but only “he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven” Jesus said, “shall enter into the kingdom of heaven;” (Matt. 7:21). Only those are known of Him (Matt. 7:22-23). Those that are known of Him fulfill His will. If you love Jesus, you will actually obey Him and do His will (Jn 14:15-24). If you don't obey Him, you don't actually love Him (Jn 14:23-24). People that love and befriend the world are lost (1 Jn. 2:15-17) and the enemies of God (Jan. 4:4). Their mind is carnal, not spiritual, because they are of the flesh and not the Spirit (Rom. 8:1-16; Jn. 3:3-8). A person that is a “friend of the world” is not only not doing God’s will but is also “an enemy of God” (Jam. 4:4). Only lost people are the enemies of God, enemy being the same word used to describe God’s ultimate enemy, the Devil. They have yet the “spirit of the world” and not “the spirit which is of God” (1 Cor. 2:12), thus have never “escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2 Pet. 1:4).
Contemporary professing Christians tout “grace” and “liberty” and “love” but the “grace” they proclaim is completely contrary to the grace found in Gods Word (e.g. Ti. 2:11-14), and the “liberty” they flaunt is completely contrary to the liberty found in Gods Word (e.g. Gal. 5:13, 19-21), and the “love” they proclaim is entirely contrary to Scripture (Jn 14:15-24; 1 Jn 2:3-5; 1 Jn 1:6; 1 Cor 13). Biblical love “Rejoiceth not in iniquity, but rejoiceth in the truth;” (1 Cor 13:6). CCM is iniquity. Their “grace” is found in Ju. 1:4, the grace of false believers/ teachers who have “crept in unawares, who were before of old ordained to this condemnation, ungodly men, turning the grace of our God into lasciviousness, and denying the only Lord God, and our Lord Jesus Christ.” (Ju. 1:4).
CCM fulfils the lusts of itching fable-loving ears:
“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” (2 Tim. 4:3-4).
It is fleshly music that gets lost people (false professing “believers”) emotionally addicted to a different strain of the world’s music. And like all addictions of the natural man (1 Cor. 2:14 — the lost man), it is never satisfied and there is a progression into more and more of the world’s sensuality and perversion. Truly, “Hell and destruction are never full; so the eyes of man are never satisfied.” (Pr. 27:20) These things reveal seed sown on thorny ground, choked out by “the care[s] of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, . . . and the lusts of other things entering in, . . . choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring NO fruit to perfection” (Matt. 13:22; Mk. 4:19; Lk. 8:14), which most certainly is lost soil, false professing ground, people that have never been converted yet imitating and conforming to a form of “godliness” without any of its power (2 Tim. 3:5). The “worship” of CCM is a worship and idol of self, of the flesh, and not worshipping God “in spirit and in truth.” (Jn. 4:23-24). It is a “sacrifice to devils, and not to God” and Paul says “and I would not that ye should have fellowship with devils.” (1 Cor. 10:20). “Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils.” (1 Cor. 1:21). But that is precisely what “evangelicalism” of today is attempting to do; a buffet of both the Lords table and the devils table. That is called spiritual adultery and no adulterer has any inheritance in the kingdom of God (Jam. 4:4; 1 Cor. 6:9-10; Gal. 5:19-21).
CCM does not honour God.
True God-honouring holy Christian music on the other hand...
Must be Scripturally, doctrinally, theologically sound (Col. 3:16-17; Ti. 1:9; 2:10; 1 Tim. 1:3, 10; 6:3-5; 2 Tim. 4:3-4; Heb. 13:9a; 2 Jn. 1:9-10)
Must harmonize with the Biblical doctrine of separation from the world (Lev. 10:10, Rom. 12:1-2; 1 Jn. 2:15-17; Eph. 5:6-11; Jam. 4:4)
Must be true (sound doctrine) and understandable (1 Cor. 14:7-8, 15; Jn. 17:17)
Must edify and build up the saint (1 Cor. 14:26; Eph. 4:12)
Must be holy and sacred and spiritual (Ezk. 44:23; Eph. 5:6-19)
Must emphasize melody (Eph. 5:29; Is. 23:16; 51:3)
Must be Christ-Centred (1 Cor. 2:1-2; Eph. 5:20)
Must flow from a submissive attitude and not a proud rebellious one (Phil. 2:10-11; Eph. 5:21-22)
Must not be fleshly or carnal (Ti. 2:11-14; Rom. 13:14; 2 Cor. 10:5).
CCM meets none of these Biblical requirements or characteristics of godly music.
The Bible tells us to “hate every false way” (Ps. 119:128) and to “have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” (Eph. 5:11). That means we must hate this CCM / “Christian” rock stuff and reject professing “Christians” and “Churches” that compromise and apostatize with it. We must hate what they do and the way they do it. We must hate the philosophy of ministry that it represents and the way it misrepresents the God of the Bible. We must hate the way it deceives the people with whom it is involved and what it does to churches. We must hate the way that it harms and even ruins discernment and the way that it perverts a biblical or true understanding of spirituality and love. We must hate the way that it endorses false worship for churches. We must not tolerate it or have anything to do with it. It's disgusting. Nauseating of the face-in-palm kind.
To love and embrace this false and worldly worship is a mark of a false deceived “believer” (1 Jn 2:15-17; Jam 4:4; Jn 15:18-20; 17:14–16).
Using the wrong means is against God. We are to regulate our lives by what God said, not by our opinion or feelings. The methods of musical “evangelists” and CCMers confuses people more than giving them the gospel, because it doesn't represent Jesus Christ. It presents a false Jesus, such as 2 Cor. 11:4 says. And no one is saved by a false gospel.
Stop dishonouring God with your ungodly music.
Maybe more importantly, repent and be converted so that you won’t love this dishonouring and carnal music any longer, since no man can change his nature just like the leapord can’t change his spots.
