Keith (actually Jillian Keith) and Kristyn Getty are husband and wife hailing from Northern Ireland. They have become very well known as singers and songwriters especially for their song “In Christ Alone.” “Up to 100 million people worldwide sing Keith Getty’s hymns in church services each year” (“Hitting the right notes,” Belfast Telegraph, Aug. 11, 2018).
The following is the edited version written in part as a response to a friend about the following article: “Keith Getty: Modern worship mov’t is 'utterly dangerous,' causing 'de-Christianizing of God’s people'” (source).
1. The Hypocrisy of the Getty’s.
I find it extremely ironic that Keith Getty is warning of the “modern worship movement” when he is actually a big part of that very movement. When he performs, it is entertainment. It is not solemn and God-honouring worship. When he plays the piano, he does the effeminate soulful eye clinching, placing his face close to the piano, with a gentle bobbing of his head with the rhythm. Kristyn sings for effect with a breathy and sultry quality, throatiness, the clenched eyes, all the artificial signals of fake authenticity. Their rock and roll music and syncopation with showmanship only feeds the emotions and flesh of listeners. The Getty music is Charismatic. I understand that there is worse, but that is no consolation. They have appeared at the Harvest Show on LeSEA Broadcasting network and and LeSea is Lester Sumrall, a Pentecostal preacher, who started the network. That doesn’t surprise, as the name "Harvest” is a very common designation for Charismatics. And this is again an evidence of the nauseating hypocrisy of the “reformed theologians” like Keith Getty who claim that “many modern worship songs focus on emotionalism rather than sound doctrine and Scriptural truths” but that is exactly what he and his wife are doing!
The truth is, it isn't even gospel that they are presenting in their so-called “worship,” like they and many of their defenders claim, even though "gospel music" itself is not historic, biblical worship. It arose in the late 19th century as a means of manipulation and pandering to a fleshly lost crowd under the guise of promoting the gospel. The gospel is to be preached, not sung to an audience, like what they are doing. They are contributing to the very cause and effect of this “generation ill-equipped to understand or defend the Christian faith.” People that don’t understand or cannot defend the Christian faith are unsaved! Man, how terribly simple minded do the people get in this age of moral reprobates and religious reprobates, “men of corrupt minds, reprobate concerning the faith.” (2 Tim 3:8).
The Getty’s present a different Christianity than that which is found in God’s Word (e.g. Ti. 2:10-14; Eph. 5:4-11; Rom. 12:1-2), so hypocrisy. As “theologically dense” as people claim about the Getty’s, they are not anything like traditional hymns and the Psalter. It's a completely different quality of poetry than the old hymns and more fitting for this popular modern music they sing, both in the unsound doctrinal lyrics and melody. They are vague, anemic and doctrinally unsound many times. Nor does the music actually match the words. It isn't reverent. It isn't holy. It is sentimental at best and erotic at worst. They portray and advertise themselves as ‘Modern Hymn Writers’ but are deceiving many into the Rock Genre by this very innocent title and by the more Soft Rock music they perform. But the fact is, that they are not “modern hymn writers” because they are putting out rock music which is not spiritual at all but carnal, worldly and evil, thereby fulfilling the desires of the flesh, of that natural man, which tells us what nature they truly are since all people are only one of two natures (natural or spiritual: 1 Cor 2:9-16). They are manipulators and bridge builders to full blown CCM which is “Christian” Rock which is completely of the world. All this music is not of God, but is “earthly, sensual, devilish.” (Jam. 3:15).
2. The Getty’s Music Isn’t Biblical Worship.
Their music isn't Biblical worship. They play and write unscriptural and worldly music, which is not of God. They don’t worship God in spirit and in truth, which all true born again believers do (Jn. 4:23-24), for the Father seeketh such to worship Him. It is modern syncretism. It masquerades as spirituality with the lilting Celtic feeling combined with the blues. It's an impostor, and yet it is presented as worship. They might be able to fool people, namely because many are unsaved that listen, but they can’t fool God. Gods Word condemns their music for what it is: carnal, fleshly, ungodly, and unholy. Although their printed music is somewhat conservative and doesn’t use rock building blocks such as the backbeat and beat anticipation, it is deceptive because they do this to broaden their influence into the most conservative of churches, but their performances are often full blown rock shows. Their vocals incorporate rock stylings such as slipping and sliding and croaking. None of this is Biblical. It’s entirely of the flesh, which dovetails with their love of the world, which is people void of God’s love (1 Jn 2:15).
Not only are they the actual ones being “utterly dangerous” (which was claimed of others by the Getty’s), the Gettys are perhaps the most dangerous of all CCM musicians, on the account of what they are offering is wrapped in a package that is attractive to “fundamentalists” — their Irish brogue and their physical attractiveness, their fairly conservative appearance and effervescent cheerfulness, their foot-tapping, Emerald Isle-tinged music, and frequent spiritual depth of their lyrics. But as likable as the Gettys are, that attractive, “conservative-appearing” package is deceptive and seductive and fake, and a bridge to ever greater spiritual danger. It’s these type of musicians that target “old fashioned” churches with “transition” songs and music. Getty’s are champions at this, and majority of churches that bring in their music, are doing it for that very purpose.
CCM musicians and promoters are proselytizers. There are even transition songs and bridge songs designed to move traditional churches along the contemporary path toward Christian rock. These include “How Deep the Father's Love for Us” by Stuart Townsend and “In Christ Alone” by Keith Getty and Stuart Townsend. They advertise themselves to be ‘Modern Hymn Writers’ but are deceiving many into the Rock Genre by this very innocent title and the more conservative praise Soft Rock music. But the fact is, that they are not modern hymn writers because they are putting out ungodly Rock Music which is not godly and Biblical at all but carnal and demonic and thereby only fulfilling the desires of the flesh, which reveals a people that are natural, i.e., unsaved (1 Cor 2:14; 6:9-10; cf. Gal 5:24).
While they might not write hard rock worship songs, they don’t speak against it either. Just the opposite. Keith Getty said that he is glad for edgy, hard-rocking renditions of his music by artists such as Newsboys, Ricky Skaggs, Owl City, Alison Krauss, and Natalie Grant, because “it is an honour” for him to witness popular modern musicians record them, and “it’s also interesting to hear their interpretation of it and useful for the song because it helps the song get played more” (“The Gettys Exclusive: Famed Hymn Writers Talk Irish Christmas Tour,” Christian Post, Dec. 2, 2014). Ungodly and unholy Rapper Trip Lee was featured at the Getty’s Sing! 2019 conference (“Getty Music Continues Their Five-Year Journey,” Sep. 24, 2018, gettymusic.com). The Gettys list the Beatles as a major musical influence, and I have never heard them warn God’s people to stay away from the Beatles. In a July 2013 interview, Keith Getty mentioned vile rocker Sting and homosexual rocker Elton John in a positive light, with not a hint of warning. The interview was with Dan Wooding of Assist Ministries and was broadcast on Frontpage Radio from Nashville -- www.assist-ministries.com/FrontPageRadio/FPR06.09.13KeithGettyMono.mp3. In the same interview Keith Getty heaped praise on Bono of the Irish rock band U2, calling him a “brilliant theological thinker” and saying that Bono “cares for a lot of the things that Christ asks us to care about.” He also said, “I love his passion for life and his passion for learning.” Getty had absolutely nothing to say about Bono by word of warning. Of course not, because they are one and the same (Am. 3:3). Bono rarely even attends church, and when he does it is often a viciously heretical “church” like Glide Memorial United Methodist in San Francisco (Bill Flanagan, U2 and the End of the World, p. 99). Bono’s biographer said that he has been a frequent worshiper at Glide. Cecil Williams, former pastor of the church, doesn’t believe in heaven; he began performing homosexual “marriages” in 1965; and church “celebrations” have included dancing with complete nudity. Bono is a heavy drinker, womanizer, fornicator and this is Bono’s type of "Christianity" but yet Keith Getty claims Bono “cares for a lot of the things that Christ asks us to care about.”
This is who the Getty’s really are, not unlike any other CCM musician, but they deceive and manipulate to portray someone they are not. They present like the devil does, as angels of light, as “ministers of righteousness” (2 Cor. 11:12-15). The Getty's are corrupt reprobates and agents of Satan, whether wittingly or unwittingly, and need to be exposed from the rooftops (2 Tim 3:8-9). Hence my quest here.
3. The Ecumenicalism of the Getty’s.
Their music bridges any denomination and “Christianity” even though Gods Word doesn’t. This is their theme song. The Getty’s goal is to “bring everyone together musically” (www.keithgetty.com). They want to “bridge the gap between the traditional and contemporary” (http://www.gettymusic.com/about.aspx). That is definitely not of God. When their song “In Christ Alone” was chosen to be performed for the enthronement of England’s Archbishop of Canterbury in 2013, Keith Getty said, “We are so honoured that one of our hymns would be used for such an historic occasion in British life” (“In Christ Alone Featured,” Mar 22, 2013, NeuFutur.com). He should’ve rather said that he was ashamed to be associated with the terrible apostasy of the Archbishops of Canterbury, and then reprove their spiritual wickedness, and their false, deceptive and dead spiritual state. That would’ve been the response of a true born again believer, who has God the Spirit dwelling in him and thus a desire and boldness to preach the truth, but the opposite response occurs which truly reflects their equally lost and dead spiritual state. Two can’t walk together except they be agree (Am. 3:3). That might sound harsh or “judgmental” but its explicitly in accordance with the Word of God (see Jam. 4:4; Rom. 16:17-18; Ti. 1:9-16). See also The Philosophy of Judge Not and Don't Reprove Others is Heretical
The Gettys associate in ministry with almost anybody: Pentecostal, Charismatic, Roman Catholic, Protestant, Baptist and everything else in between. They love apostates such as C.S. Lewis who deny the gospel and the blood atonement and many other Biblical doctrines, and theistic evolutionists (John Lennox, who is Kristyn’s uncle and introduced the two), etc. Being sympathetic towards and in fellowship with Rome—which is thoroughly apostate and antichrist—is so blatantly unscriptural and ungodly, one needs no further evidence of a lost and dead spiritual state. Really. There is no greater example of religious evil, heresy and hypocrisy in this world than Rome — so if you associate with them or are sympathetic towards them, that is tell-tale to your true nature. The Getty’s pastor, Alistair Begg, is (or was) the head of the deeply heretical and apostate Gospel Coalition, which organization promotes ungodly ecumenical “unity.” One report is entitled “The Urgency of Evangelical Ecumenism” which speaks volumes. The report “Should Christians Be Ecumenical?” asks, “Can evangelicals and Catholics truly be together? . . . Jesus’ prayer for unity in the Body obligates me to see the ecumenical task as important for Christianity.” This is false and serious perversion and wresting of John 17. Jesus’ prayer has nothing to do ecumenism. In fact, a careful reading of His prayer refutes ecumenism. Yet this article which was written by Trevin Wax, a Southern Baptist Wheaton College (which is likewise very heretical) professor who associates closely with the Gettys— has been endorsed by The Gospel Coalition. Keith Getty also favourably quotes all sorts of unsound and heretical men. For example, in his 2017 book Sing! he quotes the Roman Catholic mystic J.R.R. Tolkien, Augustine, C.S. Lewis, and Sting. Preposterous!
They also have a close relationship with the songwriter and musician Stuart Townend, who is radically charismatic and ecumenical, a full blown Pentecostal and worship leader at the extremely heretical Pentecostal Church of Christ the King. Their music company is GTM (Getty Townend Music). Not only do they write and publish songs with Townend, but they also tour together, joining hands, for example, in the Celtic Islands Tour 2012. Townend is charismatic in “theology.“ He leads worship at the Church of Christ, a New Frontiers church in Brighton, England. (New Frontiers is a network of charismatic churches that believes in modern apostles and prophets.) The senior pastor is Terry Virgo. Townend supports the “extraordinary manifestations of the Spirit,” which refers to the demonic/fleshly charismatic mysticism such as meaningless gibberish, prophesying, spirit slaying, holy laughter, and shaking. (This church is also the home of the Christian rock band Phatfish, with whom Townend has toured. Their music is described as “jazz-funk-rock.”)
Townend is radically ecumenical and heretical in philosophy, supporting the Alpha program which bridges charismatic, Protestant, and Roman Catholic churches. Townend has a false concept of Christ. When asked, “What would Jesus sing?” he replied: “I think he would be doing thrash metal or hip hop or something where we’d go, ‘He can’t do that!’ Because I think he would be challenging our comfortable perceptions. I don’t know what he would sing or whose songs he would sing, but I believe he would do it in a way that would surprise and probably shock us” (“What Would Jesus Sing?” from an interview with Stuart Townend, TV series Principles of Praise, 2011). Townend has no Biblical testimony of salvation as noted in the following biographical sketch from WorshipTogether.com “Stuart grew up as the youngest of four children in a Christian family in West Yorkshire where his father was a Church of England vicar. Stuart’s family always enjoyed music and one brother, Ian, went on to become a member of the group Heartbeat. Stuart himself began to play the piano at the age of 7. It was while living in West Yorkshire that at the age of 13 he made his Christian commitment. Then later at the age of 18, when helping to lead a children’s camp in Hand Cross, West Sussex, he had a profound experience of the Holy Spirit.” That means nothing at all and by all appearances he was influenced by “another spirit“ (2 Cor 11:4), his ungodly and corrupt fruit verifying that.
Yet the Getty’s embrace such heretics and that speaks volumes (Am 3:3). They likewise have no true Biblical testimony of salvation which is very common along reformed Calvinists. Concerning the ecumenicalism, we see the same type of hypocrisy with John MacArthur who puts on Strange Fire conferences while entertaining Strange Fire. No wonder the Getty’s are charismatic; “Can two walk together except they be agreed?” (Am 3:3).
The Getty’s are ecumenical indeed and non-separated, which is entirely contrary to Scripture. Their ungodly ecumenicalism is noted in many other ways and even mentioned in the article in question, speaking of hosting people like John Piper and Joni Eareckson Tada, and other CCMers and rockers such as Ellie Holcomb, and Trip Lee. They are close friends with Matt Redman who is ecumenically yoked with anyone including Roman Catholics. In 2020 Redman “worshipped” at the Hillsong Phoenix hosted Alpha Conference which even had a Catholic mass. Other speakers included Sarah Shin of Intervarsity Christian Fellowship, Francis Chan, Kelvin Walker of the Christian & Missionary Alliance, Catholic priest James Mallon.
In Oct 2012, the Gettys joined hands with the emerging ungodly heretic Leonard Sweet at the National Worship Leader Conference in San Diego. Sweet calls his universalist-tinged doctrine New Light and “quantum spirituality” and “the Christ consciousness” and describes it in terms of “the union of the human with the divine” which is the “center feature of all the world’s religions” (Quantum Spirituality, p. 235). He defines the New Light as “a structure of human becoming, a channeling of Christ energies through mindbody experience” (ibid, p. 70). Sweet says that “New Light pastors” hold the doctrine of “embodiment of God in the very substance of creation” (ibid, p. 124). In Carpe Mañana, Sweet says that the earth is as much a part of the body of Christ as humans and that humanity and the earth constitutes “a cosmic body of Christ” (p. 124). Sweet lists some of the “New Light leaders” that have influenced his thinking as Matthew Fox, M. Scott Peck, Willis Harman, and Ken Wilber. These are prominent New Agers who believe in the divinity of man. Sweet has endorsed evil and blasphemous The Shack with its non-judgmental father-mother god, and promoted Roman Catholic contemplative mysticism and dangerous mystics such as the Catholic-Buddhist Thomas Merton. Sweet is worse than a ravening wolf in sheep’s clothing (Matt 7:15), but that doesn’t stop the Getty’s from fellowshipping and working together with him.
In July 2012, the Gettys joined Townend and Roman Catholic Matt Maher on NewsongCafe on WorshipTogether.com. They played and discussed “The Power of the Cross,” which was co-written by Getty-Townend. The 10-minute program promoted ecumenical unity, with Maher/Townend/Getty entirely one in the spirit through the music. Fundamental doctrinal differences are so meaningless that they are not even mentioned. Spiritual abominations such as the papacy, the mass, infant baptism, baptismal regeneration, and Mariolatry were ignored. Ju 1:3 was despised and many passages such as Rom 16:17; 1 Tim 6:3-5; 2 Jn 1:9-11 were completely rejectEd for the sake of building the one-world church through CCM.
Keith Getty has also collaborated with Catholic Margaret Becker in the song “Jesus Draw Me Ever Nearer.” In an interview, Becker said, “One of my missions has been to say, let’s not label ourselves, let’s not put up walls between each other. I may go to a Catholic church, that does not mean I’m Catholic, in that I cannot (disagree with) any Catholic rhetoric or Catholic belief” (“US singer to make an appearance at Cross Rhythms ’95,” CR Magazine, June 1, 1995).
Getty also collaborated with Roman Catholic Máire [pronounced Moya] Brennan in writing “With the Early Morning.” Brennan says, “Christians fighting Christians, Catholics and Protestants! It breaks my heart, because we're all stemming from the same rock. We should look at that and not at what we’ve become. I discovered an awful lot, being from a Catholic background and getting married to a Protestant” (“Back to the Rock of Ages: Maire Brennan Talks to Christina Rodden”).
Catholicism is completely ungodly, demonic, apostate and Antichrist. See here for instance: Biblical Christianity vs Roman Catholicism
At their Sing! 2019 worship conference, the Gettys featured flautist Pedro Eustache. He claims to be a “Christ follower” (not a Christian) and talks about Jesus and the cross, but his Christianity is not Bible-based. It is doctrine-less, indefinable, and mystical. His gospel is so vague as to be meaningless. There is no mention of sin, the blood atonement, repentance, or saving faith. He claims that everything is “spiritual” and that nothing is “secular.” (“Pedro Estache,” interview, July 28, 2016, isharehope.com). Thus, he has no problem in playing background music for the World of Warcraft video game and a wide assortment of wicked movies. He has recorded with New Age musician Paul McCartney of the Beatles, Persian “diva Googoosh,” and many others of like spiritual caliber. Heretics associating with heretics and that again speaks volumes to the “Christianity” of the Getty’s.
This is the ecumenical “Christianity” of the Gettys. They reject biblical separation, the next point in discussion.
When someone professes to be a Christian but is ecumenical, they expose themselves in very short order to be ungodly, unsaved, hypocrites. 2 Cor 6:14-18 alone makes that abundantly clear:
“Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers: for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness? and what communion hath light with darkness? And what concord hath Christ with Belial? or what part hath he that believeth with an infidel? And what agreement hath the temple of God with idols? for ye are the temple of the living God; as God hath said, I will dwell in them, and walk in them; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people. Wherefore come out from among them, and be ye separate, saith the Lord, and touch not the unclean thing; and I will receive you, And will be a Father unto you, and ye shall be my sons and daughters, saith the Lord Almighty.”
4. The Getty’s Reject Separation.
The Gettys have no boundaries. They don’t believe in separation. They are positive-only, non-judgmental, which is entirely unscriptural. They are representative of “evangelicalism” today, at the heart of which is “a renunciation of separatism,” which then adversely and to their own demise, (once again) reveals their lost and dead condition since separation dovetails with salvation (2 Cor. 6:14–18; Pr. 9:5-6) and thus faithfully and obediently practiced as a born again child of God since the God who indwells them is a God of separation (Ezk. 22:26; Rom. 16:17-18; Eph. 5:6-11; 1 Tim. 6:3-5; 2 Tim. 3:1-9; 4:3-4; 2 Jn. 1:9-11; 3 Jn. 1:9-11; etc). The unscriptural ecumenism that is quickly ushering in the fullness of the Gentiles and the underlying theme of end-times apostasy, is noted further in the section on their philosophy on Wikipedia, of which the last line comes from Kristyn and reads, "To try to search for the melodic ideas and song structure that might bring more people in—that's what we're trying to investigate. Is there a way to bring everyone together musically?" They want to bring more people in. They like ecumenicalism but it’s very far from God. This is unscriptural “unity.” Spiritual adultery. The Getty’s goal is to “bring everyone together musically” (www.keithgetty.com). They want to “bridge the gap between the traditional and contemporary” (http://www.gettymusic.com/about.aspx) but true Bible-believers would know that this is a “gap” that cannot be bridged, as it is a gap between Christ and the world, between the Spirit and the flesh, between true churches and harlot ones. It is 100% of the devil. The question should be, "What does God want?" And the discussion is over. Everyone should then conform his taste to what God wants. But that's not the way "worship" is today, nor “evangelicalism” or Reformed “Christianity.” Today the significant question surrounds what will bring people in and create connections and fellowship and keep the pews full.
The Getty’s, like most if not all other Reformed Calvinists, don’t separate from the world, which reflects a condition of unregeneracy (Jn 15; 1 Jn. 2:15-17; Jam. 4:4; Heb. 1:9; Ti. 2:10-14; 3:3-7). Their androgynous immodesty also illustrates their love of the world. They, like majority of “Christians” today consider this of little consequence, but it is a clear biblical issue, and in fact a gospel issue. It’s tied into salvation because as we think in our heart, so are we. Good fruit comes from a good tree, corrupt fruit from a corrupt tree. Although Kristyn Getty is one of few contemporary “worship” artists that wears a dress of any kind in her performances (which has positively influenced other woman to wear dresses, not because the Bible says so, but because of someone famous), she also wears tight pants and low-cut tops and other types of immodest attire, so there is no consistency but hypocrisy (which is also so very typical of new evangelicals). And some of the other female musicians in the Getty performances are even less modest. An advertisement for the Getty’s Sing! 2019 conference featured a young woman dancing an Irish dance in extremely tight pants. That type of thing is very sensual and has no place in Christian worship and represents a natural heart driven by the only thing it knows: the flesh.
See here for further reading on Immodesty and Transgenderism.
5. The Getty’s Love the Public Eye.
People such as the Getty’s love the public eye, just like any other CCM musician, another clear indicator of a dead and lost spiritual condition. Those that are truly converted leave the public eye like the Apostle did after he was converted on the road to Damascus. They follow the description of repentance in 2 Cor. 7:10-11 and the example of Zaccheus in Lk. 19:1-10. They first spend some time getting distance from their former life, like the Apostle did. They leave off of the entire licentious and carnal scene. They stop promoting themselves. They advance the Bible and what it teaches first.
What of value spiritually can someone who is spiritually dead offer any true believer? They can’t tell you how to be saved, because they are lost themselves. They can’t tell you how to live for the Lord — because they are not living by faith or pleasing the Lord. They can’t open up the Bible to you and teach you, because it is a closed book to them. All they can do is seduce you and deceive you and destroy you. And that is precisely what terribly compromised and hypocritical people such as the Getty’s have done to millions of people.
6. The Corrupt Beliefs and Practices of the Getty’s.
The theology of the Getty’s is bad. It’s heavily based on “reformed theology” (neo-Reformed Calvinism, also called neo-Puritan) which runs contrary to Scripture. This is the world of undeniable heretics John Piper, David Platt, R.C. Sproul, Al Mohler Jr., Alister Begg, Doug Wilson, Jerry Bridges, John MacArthur — The Gospel Coalition— all of which are compromisers and heretics at best and should be loudly warned of and separated from (Ti. 3:10-11), not listened to or read like the Getty’s do. They say they love doctrine, but teach unsound doctrine and blatant heresy, neither do they separate from heresy but rather yoke with such. Reformed Calvinism is not biblically sound by any stretch. It is unsound doctrine and fables that scratch’s itching ears (2 Tim. 4:3-4). It is heresy birthed upon the ungodly and heretical unsaved “Church Fathers” such as Augustine, Ignatius, Irenaeus, and Chrysostom and the “Protestant Fathers” such as John Calvin, Martin Luther, and Zwingli, and embraces Protestantism with all its heresies, the Puritans, and infant baptism. It is a path to exceedingly heretical and evil “Replacement Theology” (the church is Israel) which is major apostasy and immediately revealing of a lost false pretender. To embrace this horrible heresy requires a rejection of at least a third of the Bible. It is also a path to Amillennialism and the rejection of Christ’s return to establish a millennial kingdom, which further exposes their hypocritical lost condition since every true blood-bought grace-saved born-again saint of God knows the truth and understands the truth (1 Jn. 2:20-21, 27) and doesn’t embrace blatant heresy and wicked doctrine and is always looking for the return of Christ and for the time period known as the millennial kingdom (1 Th. 1:9-10; 4:13-5:11; 1 Cor. 1:6-7). Practically every, if not all, religious cults, including the Mennonites embrace heresies such as Amillennialism and Replacement Theology and Rejection of the pre-millennial return of Christ. But this paints a bulls eye on their back and pronounces them as lost and spiritually dead effective stat since they cannot interpret the Scriptures and rightly divide the word of truth, both of which are enabled by the indwelling Spirit of God.
The Gospel Coalition, a reformed Calvinist organization one which the Getty’s are intimately involved with, is literally loaded with heretics on every hand. Practically an unending stream. The list of heresies, false teachings, apostates and apostasy, corrupt unBiblical practices, massive compromise, man-centredness, worldliness, wokeness, liberalness, left-leaving reprobates, etc, is so long and so much by so many, it would take an encyclopedia volume of books to cover it all. Of course we can’t neglect to mention the serious errors pertaining to God’s election and the TULIP. TGC even calls Roman Catholicism “Full-Blooded Version of Christianity.” Here is an Expose of the Slanderous Gospel Coalition (TGC) which group from its inception strayed from orthodoxy into error and heresy and is entirely apostate today. No wonder “Christians“ involved with TGC come out as atheists on a regular basis, as it seems. Ungodliness begets ungodliness.
A good example of the heresy in Reformed Calvinism is Mark Driscoll. He is the self-hailed king of cultural liberalism and the former disgraced pastor of an extremely heretical mega-“church” (I have a really hard time calling these heretical institutions “churches” — they’re not NT churches) in Seattle, WA, until it got dissolved secondary to his expulsion for gross adultery, corruption and other perversion. Not for his doctrinal heresies though. He is an active supporter of the “emergent church movement” (its nature is trans-denominational in constituency, and its motivation is new practical ecclesiology because of disillusionment with the “organized and institutional church”). He started the pathetic Acts 29 Network for “church” planting. He preaches his Reformed “Theology” and Calvinism “cool” in blue jeans and shirt hanging out, accompanied with foul language and risqué references. Driscoll is highly promoted by theologian D. A. Carson and pastor John Piper and that speaks volumes to his heretical epitaph. He brought much licentiousness into the “church” he “pastored” through sexual immorality (adultery, pornography, lewdness), marriage perversion and alcohol-induced parties (even ushering in one New Year with a champaign dance party at the “church”). He uses coarse language and is extremely worldly, completely in love with the world which reveals his condemnation and enmity with God (1 Jn 2:15-17; Jam 4:4). He mocks and makes light of Scripture, which is also blasphemous. Promotes Satanic Catholic contemplative mysticism. Revels in and exploits worldly and ungodly rock music. Teaches supernatural visions and gifts. Promotes tattoos which are pagan and ungodly. Believes and teaches the heresy that Jesus was incarnated into the culture of this world and the Christian is commissioned to do the same thing, which he calls “missional.” All Scripture passages he “uses” to support this heresy have absolutely nothing to do with being incarnated like Jesus or being a missionary to culture. The same goes for all his other heresies used on the back of proof-texted scripture but in fact scripture wrested, an “error of the wicked” (2 Pet 3:16-17). Among many other things, he clearly embraces “another Jesus” and “another gospel” and under the influence of “another spirit” (2 Cor 11:4). His corruption of scripture (2 Cor 2:17), private interpretation of scripture (2 Pet 1:16) and wresting of scripture (2 Pet 3:16-17) also expose him to be a lost fake counterfeit and wicked imposter. He is a blatant false teacher, a wolf in sheep’s clothing, but that doesn’t stop the Getty’s from embracing him.
Keith Getty leads the “worship” at Allister Beggs Reformed Calvinist Parkside Church, a church entirely indoctrinated into Reformed “Theology” that hosts apostates such as heavy metaller longhaired Alice Cooper whom they should rather have reproved for his association with the vile world of rock and roll and his false profession, but the day that would happen in this man-centred man-appeasing “evangelical” and “reformed” hodge-podge of heresy. Begg preaches at heretical schools such as Truett Seminary (alongside Beth Moore and other apostates) and the list goes on and on and on. The heresy at churches such as this is bewildering. In Nov 2019, Alistair Begg spoke at Baylor University’s National Preaching Conference with, among others, Beth Moore, who has “visions” of ecumenical unity, promotes Roman Catholic contemplative prayer, and rails on those who believe that she is not authorized to preach God’s Word to men. Baylor has been a hotbed of heresy since the 1920s, when Samuel Dow taught evolution there. In 2010, the Fantastical Church Music Conference at Baylor featured Rob Bell, who holds a false gospel and a false christ and denies the fire of hell. Bell’s God is “a force, an energy, a being calling out to us in many languages, using a variety of methods and events” (Love Wins, Kindle location 1710-1724). Bell’s false christ “doesn’t even state that those coming to the Father through him will even know that they are coming exclusively through him . . . there is one mountain, but many paths. . . . People come to Jesus in all sorts of ways . . . Sometimes people use his name; other times they don’t” (Love Wins, Kindle location 1827-1840, 1865-1878, 1918-1933). Evil minions of Satan like Bell are featured but that doesn’t stop ungodly compromisers such as Alistair Begg from attending.
Clearly Begg and congregation are living in disobedience to God’s Word and teaching contrary to Scripture, and of such John says, they have not the truth, and lie about knowing God (1 Jn. 2:3-5). Yet the Getty’s attend there and Keith leads the worship. Unbelievable.
Much of what the Getty’s say is unbiblical, running in complete contradiction to Gods Word, but it's also disrespectful as a proclamation of worship. They say they love righteousness, but they don’t hate worldliness. That doesn’t correlate and completely contradicts with happens at salvation and in the true Christian life (1 Jn. 2:15-17; Jam. 4:4; Heb. 1:9; Ti. 2:10-14; 3:3-7). Their philosophy aligns with that of Mark Driscoll, one of the most influential new Reformed Calvinists, who said, “We are theologically conservative and culturally liberal.” In other words, he is saying ‘I am a heretic.’
How about their song, "In Christ Alone,”? Sure, salvation is in Christ alone, but what “Christ”? Their style of music is not anything like what it is to be “in Christ.” The Bible warns of “another Jesus” (2 Cor. 11:4), one that doesn’t line up with Scripture. When someone is in Christ they are a new creature with all old things passed away. Their song however says "yes" to old things. In Christ the old things remain with the Gettys. I'm sure there are those who would swear on their sincerity. I would guess that Elvis was sincere too when he sang his gospel music.
Even the title of the article, a quote by Keith Getty, which reads in part, “causing 'de-Christianizing of God’s people,” doesn’t even make Biblical sense. There is no such thing as the “de-Christianizing of God’s people.” The “salvation” that Getty embraces is a very strange salvation, that holds no power and is entirely contrary to that found in Scripture which “gospel [comes] not unto you in word only, but also in power, and in the Holy Ghost, and in much assurance;” (1 Th. 1:5) and that is made up of “exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.” (2 Pet. 1:4). These passages alone speak against their “Christianity.” There are hundreds of things that happen at the very moment of conversion and continue on in the lives of “Gods people;” but apparently not in the lives of these referenced by Getty. Of course that makes Biblical sense but they aren’t “Gods people.” That needs to be made very clear.
They are always “positive, non-judgmental” which is a blatant lie to start with and completely unscriptural and contrary to how the Holy Spirit works in the believer since true godly “love . . . abound[s] yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment;” (Phil. 1:9-10). So both their rejection of judgment and embracement of false love prove a false profession. They clearly do not have “understanding to discern judgment.” (1 Ki. 3:11b). All saved people have understanding. 1 Cor. 2:15 says “But he that is spiritual judgeth all things,” And 1 Cor. 6:5, “I speak to your shame. Is it so, that there is not a wise man among you? no, not one that shall be able to judge between his brethren?” 1 Cor. 14:29, “Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.” Pr. 21:3, “To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the Lord than sacrifice.” Saved people judge and they judge righteously which is by the Bible (Lev. 19:15, 35-37; Pr. 21:15a; Pr. 21:3, 15; Ze. 8:16; Jn. 12:7; I Cor. 2:15-16; Phil. 1:9-10), “according to truth.” (Rom. 2:1-4). They judge all things. It is joy for them to judge (Pr. 21:15). False professors are against being judged because they are lost. They cry “judge not” and be “positive, non-judgmental” but they are in fact wicked hypocrites and reject the goodness of God that leads them to repentance (Rom. 2:1-5). They have never judged themselves and hate the light because they don’t want their evil deeds reproved (Jn. 3:19-21).
Conclusion
That is only the beginning of their error, the tip of the iceberg. Much more could be said but its not required because even just one of these points is enough to avoid them. So I’ll leave it at that.
The reason why the Getty's are so ineffective with their vague and ecumenical and eclectic alleged "stance" is because they are hypocrites, which means they are lost since no place in scripture are hypocrites ever saved. e.g. Job 8:13; 13:16; 15:34; 17:8; 20:5; 27:8; 36:13; Ps. 35:16; Pr. 11:9; Is. 9:17; 10:6; 33:14; Matt. 6:1-5, 16; 7:1-5; 15:7; 16:3; 22:18; 23:13, 14, 15, 18, 23, 25, 27, 29; 24:51; Lk. 11:38-52; 13:15.
Why would a professing Christian want anything to do with lost falsely pretending “believers” who are hypocrites and building bridges to the one world apostate church? There can only be one explanation and the Bible makes that clear.
The Getty’s are heretics and those that embrace and publicly propagate their music are obviously the same (Am 3:3):
“Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”
God commands:
“And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.” (Eph. 5:11).
If you are truly born again, you will.
