Warning on Jehovah Witnesses (JW’s) and the Watchtower Society

Updated: Oct 29

Warm weather brings the wolves out of the woodwork. The JW’s get busy peddling their false and damnable heresies around many communities including Mennonite ones, even undertaking the low German language to help their cause and win deceived and simple-minded people over. The Bible warns that wolves are very aggressive and dangerous (Matt 7:15-20). 1 Jn 4:1 commands, “Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

Here’s some brief points on the JW’s, warning of their “seducing a spirits, and doctrines of devils” (1 Tim 4:1-2a).

Jehovah Witnesses Major Doctrines of Devils

1. Deny the Deity of Jesus Christ. They believe Jesus is a created god, the pre-incarnate archangel Michael and is “a god” not equal to Jehovah. They reject that He is God the Son. This is certainly “another Jesus” (2 Cor. 11:4). Jesus Christ is God. There are hundred of reasons we know Jesus is God, including the fact everything said about God in the OT is also said about Jesus Christ in the NT, He is the Creator (Jn 1:1-3,14; Col 1:16-17), He said He is God (Jn 10:30) and Jehovah called Him God (Heb 1:8). “Who is a liar but he that denieth that Jesus is the Christ? He is antichrist, that denieth the Father and the Son.” (1 Jn 2:22).

2. Deny God the Spirit. They claim there is no such God/Person as the Holy Spirit. They claim the Holy Spirit is not a person but a force like electricity. The Holy Spirit is God the Spirit, one of the three Persons of the Godhead. The Holy Spirit is called a person and does the works of a person (Jn 14:17, 26; 15:26; 16:7-15), has His own feelings (Eph 4:30), His own will (Ac 13:2; 15:28; 1 Cor 12:11) and His own mind (Rom 8:26-27).

3. Deny the Trinity. They completely reject it. Scripture refers to a plurality within the unity of God (Gen 1:26; Is 6:8), that of “the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost” (Matt 28:19; 2 Cor 13:14). There “are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one” (1 Jn 5:7). Many other passages promote the Trinity of God, but JW's reject it. They believe God is a solitary person with a personal name, “Jehovah,” who is only the Father.

4. Deny Biblical Salvation. They claim only 144,000 Jehovah's Witnesses will go to Heaven (and no one else). They categorize alleged Christians into two groups. First, there is the “anointed remnant” composed of the 144,000 (Rev 7) and partakers of the “new covenant” which group was supposedly completed by the 1930s. Only these are “born again" and will go to heaven as spirits sons of God. The rest of the JW’s compose the “Great Crowd” or “Other Sheep” which is taken from Rev 7:9 (The Watchtower, Apr 1, 1979, p 31) which are not saved, will never go to heaven but will live forever on a glorified earth, not children of God until they are resurrected and pass the final test during the millennium to have the chance to live in new heaven and new earth after the great Armageddon. All these passages are brutally butchered and abused to get to their ungodly and heretical perverted beliefs.

To be "born again" requires believing and embracing a false works salvation. Salvation comes only through being a JW and doing ALL that the Watchtower asks you to do. They deny Heaven for all "believers." The teach there are four requirements for salvation: Jesus Christ must be identified; Taking in knowledge of God’s purposes regarding the earth and Christ’s role as earth’s new king. In other words, “to obey God’s law"; Associated with God’s channel, His theocratic organization; To support His government while loyally advocating His kingdom rule to others.

True salvation however is a free gift of God’s grace without works (Jn 3:16-18; Rom 3:19-24; 4:1-8; 11:6; Eph 2:8-9). The 144,000 remnant of Rev 7 are of the 12 Jewish tribes of Israel during the Tribulation. There’s no classes of believers (Jn 17:5-6, 20-21; Eph 2:18-22). All believers have the Holy Spirit (Rom 8:9) and are born again (1 Jn 5:1). There is only one class. 1 Pet 1:1-5 teaches all believers are the elect of God (vv 1-2), born again (v 3), have a living hope (v 3), have an inheritance in heaven (v 4), and kept by God’s power (v 5). The true believer’s home is in heaven (Jn 14:1-3; Col 1:4-5; 3:1-4; Heb 3:1; 12:22-24; 1 Pet 1:4).

5. Deny the Bodily Resurrection of Jesus Christ. They claim Jesus has no physical resurrection body, only a spirit body; He only appeared to have a body and was resurrected as a “glorious spirit creature” and his body dissolved into gaseous form (The Time Is at Hand, 1889, 1915 ed, p 129). Again, “another Jesus” and “another gospel” (2 Cor. 11:4).

6. Deny Other Teachings about Jesus Christ. They falsely claim Jesus Christ returned invisibly in 1914 and deny His visible Second Coming to rule the world for a millennium.

7. Deny Eternal Torment in Hell and Man's Eternal Soul. Jesus warned of hell four times more than speaking of the glories of heaven. According to the JW’s hell is only the grave and they believe in “soul sleep” and the “annihilation of the wicked.” (Let Your Name Be Sanctified, 1961, p 250). The Bible on the other hand says word “hell” refers to the place where lost and unsaved departed spirits go (De. 32:22; Pr. 9:18; 23:14; Ez. 31:16; 32:21; Mk. 9:43-48) including those who embrace heretical and doctrines of devils like these of the JW's.

8. Reject Gods Inspired and Preserved Word. According to the JW’s, the Bible is inspired of God but it is a closed book except to Jehovah’s remnant who are taught by the JW organization (The Watchtower, Sept. 15, 1910, p 298). JW’s teach that they are given “new light” from God from time to time, and that they can change doctrine based on this new light. This is how they have explained the many changes through the years (The Watchtower, Mar 1, 1979, p 24).

The JWs have their own Bible, the New World Translation. None of the five translators knew Hebrew or Greek. The NWT perverts every passage that deals with the deity of Jesus Christ (E.g. Jn 1:1; Col 1:15-17; Heb 1:8; Ze 12:10).

Prior to the NWT, the JW’s published the ASV. Reasoning for this is simple; the Unitarians associated with ASV project (i.e. Abbot and Thayer) held same view of Christ as JW’s. JW’S also published Westcott and Hort Greek Text. The Bible on the other says the believe has the Holy Spirit as his Teacher and is not dependent upon man (1 Jn 2:20-27). The Christian faith was settled during the days of the Apostles (Ju 1:3). The Bible is complete and sufficient able to make the man of God perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works (2 Tim 3:16-17). The NWT is a perversion based upon the corrupted Westcott and Hort and produced by a convicted liar who was unqualified to translate the Bible.

9. They are False Prophets that Prophecy Falsely. The Watchtower has consistently and falsely prophesied the end of the world. (1914, 1918, 1925, 1942 and 1975). Since their last false prophecy more than 1 million JW’s have left their church. In the 1920's The Watchtower built a palace in San Diego, California which they called Beth Sarim, for Abraham, Isaac and Jacob who they prophesied falsely would return from the dead in 1925. When Abraham, Isaac and Jacob had not returned from the dead The Watchtower president Judge Rutherford, an alcoholic, moved into the mansion himself.

“Then the LORD said unto me, The prophets prophesy lies in my name: I sent them not, neither have I commanded them, neither spake unto them: they prophesy unto you a false vision and divination, and a thing of nought, and the deceit of their heart.” (Jer 14:14).

In 2 Cor. 11:12-15 Paul warns us of those who come with false doctrines of devils:

“But what I do, that I will do, that I may cut off occasion from them which desire occasion; that wherein they glory, they may be found even as we. For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ. And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light. Therefore it is no great thing if his ministers also be transformed as the ministers of righteousness; whose end shall be according to their works.”
